to Belize City from San Pedro, Ambergris Caye

This is one of the most interesting tours in Belize. After a 15-minute flight to Belize City you will take a 1-hour drive up the Northern Highway, to Tower Hill where you will board a river boat and head up the New River. While traversing the many little creeks and lagoons, you are likely to encounter hawks, kites and falcons. You may also see dainty Jacanas lightly walking on the lily pads while the crocodiles bask in the morning sunlight. At the entrance to the New River Lagoon, the ruins of Lamanai (Maya for “Submerged Crocodile”) rise into view. While touring this site, huge masks depicting dead rulers and gods seem to materialize out of the rainforest amid the chatter of birdlife and the haunting call of the Howler Monkeys. Your guide will point out the Copal and Ramon trees, which were of great importance in ancient times.

What Our Guests Are Saying

"Highly Recommended"
Our driver and guide Randy was extraordinarily knowledgable about the history, cultures, flora, and fauna of Belize. He's been a guide for over 15 years and the depth of his experience really came across -- and he still kept it fresh and lively, even when we passed through a bit of rain. Highly recommended. “Fantastic Tours & Great Guides”
I was in Belize in July 2011 and my sister and I did five fantastic tours with Discovery Expeditions. On the mainland we did the river safari to the Lamanai temples. It was a wonderful trip! This was a full day activity that included transportation, bottled water, and lunch. You’ll need mosquito repellent for this trip. [Read More]
